Start with the current Chai offer

Chai’s own FAQ says people can start for free after signing up with Google, and describes Pro benefits such as longer or unlimited conversations, faster responses, and advanced models. These are the vendor’s current descriptions, not a promise that every feature is available in every region or will remain unchanged.

Check the official pricing page immediately before subscribing. Prices, trials, billing periods, and feature entitlements can change; a dated screenshot or old review should not be treated as current pricing evidence.

Compare alternatives by the same access questions

If you are looking for an alternative because of account setup, distinguish Google sign-in from no sign-up. If your concern is limits, check the actual daily or session allowance rather than relying on the word “free.” If advanced models matter, confirm which tier includes them and whether those models are available to your account.

Use a short trial checklist: can you start the chat, keep its context, return later, and see what a paid tier changes? Note the account requirement, price period, cancellation route, and any limitation that is not clear.

A practical checklist

  • What sign-in method is required?
  • What is the free allowance, and when does it reset?
  • Which paid features are explicitly listed?
  • Can you cancel and retain access through the billing period?
  • What privacy and data controls are documented?

Do not compare a plan name to an experience

A subscription can bundle several distinct things: more messages, faster service, different models, or additional controls. Decide which change would actually improve your use. If continuity is the goal, measure recall across sessions rather than assuming a higher tier automatically provides better memory.

Try the same character and scene across candidates. Track relevance, consistency, and how easily you can resume after a break. Keep an unknown field for any feature the public documentation does not explain.

Check account and billing separately

Account sign-in and payment processing are separate pieces of the experience. Read the product’s privacy notice and billing help, and make sure you understand what identity provider is involved and where subscription management happens.

Never share passwords or payment details through an unofficial comparison page. Open the vendor’s own site or app and verify its domain before entering credentials.

Compare Jess on its own terms

Jess uses a Discord DM experience and Patreon-connected membership tiers, which is a different path from starting with a Google account in a standalone companion app. You can review the three Jess tiers on the website before choosing whether to connect Patreon.

Jess may fit someone who prefers Discord and a single ongoing companion; it will not satisfy a requirement for a standalone Chai-like app or Google-based account flow. Compare the workflow you will use rather than treating all companion products as interchangeable.
